Introduction
Welcome back to the channel! Today, we're diving into a review that many of you have been eagerly awaiting: my 8000km journey with the CFmoto 450MT. ?
First off, a quick disclaimer: this video is not sponsored by CFmoto; I purchased this bike myself.
Overview of My Journey
After completing 800 miles on this bike, I traveled through 20 different countries, navigating everything from small trails to mountain climbs and autobahns. While I have some experience with motorcycles, my primary ride is a 1000cc Suzuki sports motorcycle, which makes direct comparisons challenging.
Negatives of the CFmoto 450MT
Let's jump right into the negatives, as I’ve jotted down some key issues during my rides.
1. Cold Starting Issues
One of the most significant problems I've faced is how poorly the bike performs when it's cold. This isn't just about starting the bike in the morning. After a 25-mile ride, if I stop for 20 minutes, it’s a struggle to get back on the highway. The bike runs very roughly, almost like someone is turning the throttle on and off. Thankfully, after about five minutes of riding, this issue resolves itself.
2. Electrical Faults
I’ve encountered various electrical faults, including issues with the USB charging port. When I plug in a mobile device, the ignition sometimes stays on, preventing me from shutting the bike off properly. An hour of disconnecting the battery helped somewhat, but the problem persists.
3. High Fuel Consumption
The fuel consumption seems excessive. My experience shows that while I can average around 0.42-0.47 liters per 100 km, it's still high compared to other bikes like the Honda NX500, which gets much better mileage.
4. Front Brake Weakness
The front brake feels undersized. While it does stop the bike well, the overall braking feel seems a bit flimsy.
5. Cheap-feeling Throttle and Paint
The throttle feels cheap, and there are reports of it cracking under stress. Additionally, the paint quality on the rims can discolor easily after rain or muddy conditions, leading to dull finishes.
6. Service Intervals
The service interval recommendations are a bit disconcerting. While the manual suggests servicing every 500 miles, I've been told by the dealer that 1000 miles is acceptable. This discrepancy can be worrying when you're on long trips in unfamiliar places.
7. Potential Rusting Inside the Frame
Some users report that there's potential for moisture accumulation and rusting within certain parts of the frame. This is concerning for anyone who rides in the rain frequently.
8. Weight Concerns
At a full weight of 192 kg, the bike can feel heavy, especially when packed with gear.
Positives of the CFmoto 450MT
Despite these downsides, there are also many great features worth mentioning.
1. Large Fuel Tank
The bike has a sizeable 17-liter fuel tank, which can allow for longer rides without frequent stops.
2. High-Quality Controls
All buttons and controls feel solid and high-quality, making for a pleasant riding experience.
3. Excellent Instrument Cluster
The instrument cluster is clear and easy to read, even in bright sunlight. However, some features, such as mobile unit mirroring, aren't available in Europe yet.
4. Good Engine Performance
The engine is robust, offering smooth, almost vibration-free acceleration, which is excellent for both city commuting and long-distance travel.
5. Quality Suspension
The suspension feels well-made, with both front and rear setups providing a comfortable ride. I was even able to tweak the settings for a better experience.
6. LED Lighting
All lights are LED, which enhances visibility during night rides.
7. Comfort Level
The overall comfort is notable, with many hours of riding without fatigue—comparable to my Suzuki.
8. Tubeless Rims
The tubeless rims offer an advantage for easy puncture repairs.
Overall, despite some setbacks, the CFmoto 450MT offers solid performance and features, making it a worthwhile adventure bike for the price.
Conclusion
If you're considering this bike, keep in mind the pros and cons. Your riding experience may vary based on your past bike history and preferences. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this bike again for local ventures, but for long European trips, I might opt for a more powerful bike.
