How I Automated My Daily Podcast with AI

Automation has become an integral part of our lives, and one area where it has proven to be incredibly useful is in podcasting. In this article, I will share my process of automating my daily news podcast using AI. This method has allowed me to reach a wide audience and generate nearly 1,000 plays in just its first month, all without any additional promotion. If you're interested in automating your podcast and want to learn how, keep reading.

Step 1: Automating with Make and Feedly

To automate my podcast, I rely on the automation service called Make. By using its powerful automation features, I can connect various apps together to perform tasks automatically. In this case, I use Feedly to gather news articles for my podcast. Feedly allows me to easily select articles of interest by starring them.

To get started with Make, sign up using the special link: You'll receive one month of the Pro Plan for free. Once you have signed up, create a new scenario within Make. Your first step is to add Feedly as one of the apps in your automation.

Within Feedly, set up a trigger that will be activated every time you star a new article. This trigger will be the starting point for your podcast automation.

Step 2: Incorporating AI with Chat GPT

The next step is to leverage the power of AI in your podcast automation. I use Chat GPT, an AI model developed by OpenAI, to generate podcast scripts based on the news articles I select. Within Make, add Chat GPT as another module in your automation.

Create a system message in Chat GPT to instruct the AI on how to write the podcast script. Be specific about the format, limiting the script to three sentences and avoiding any additional information like websites or introductions and outros.

Next, add a user message that includes the title and content of the selected article from Feedly. This information will be used by Chat GPT to generate the script.

Step 3: Storing and Updating the Script with Google Drive

To store and update the podcast script, integrate Google Drive into your automation. Create a folder in Google Drive where your podcast scripts will be saved. Inside the folder, create another folder specifically for your AI news podcast.

Add Google Drive as a module in Make and set it up to search for files or folders within the designated location. You can search for files based on specific criteria, such as the date of creation. This step ensures that each day, a new file is created for your podcast script.

Step 4: Splitting the Automation Paths

Now it's time to split the automation paths based on whether a script file already exists for the day or not. To do this, incorporate the Flow Control module called Router in Make.

Set up the Router to direct the automation based on the existence of the script file in Google Drive. If the file doesn't exist, create a new Google Docs document using the AI-generated script, and store it in the designated folder.

If the file already exists, append the new AI-generated script to the existing document. This allows you to continuously add new stories to the same podcast script file throughout the day.

Step 5: Publishing the Episode with SoundCloud

The final step is to publish your podcast episode. While there are various podcast hosting platforms available, SoundCloud offers a seamless integration with Make. Connect SoundCloud to Make and set up the automation to upload the generated audio file as a new track.

Include the title and description of the episode generated by Chat GPT in the corresponding fields. You can also add relevant metadata, such as the genre and streaming/download options. By selecting "Include in RSS feed as default," every uploaded file will be automatically included in your podcast's RSS feed.

After setting up the automation, schedule it to run daily at the desired time. When triggered, it will generate the audio file, upload it to SoundCloud, and make it available for your audience to access through your podcast feed.
