AEA 480 bar compressor - Review
Entertainment
Introduction
Today, we will review the AEA compressor, a unit that stands out in the world of air compression, particularly for shooting enthusiasts. The first notable change is the new setup for testing in my shooting range. The previous table was dangerous and sloped, causing some comments about shooting uphill. Thankfully, the new table is completely leveled, ensuring a stable shooting platform. Additionally, we've cleared out some obstructions that were in the way of the shooting path, including a big maple tree, allowing for a clear shot at the target, which is now positioned better.
With my keen interest in air rifles, I typically travel to my range by bike with my GK1 air rifle in my backpack. The AEA compressor conveniently accompanies me, making it easy to fill my tanks on location. Unlike traditional compressors, this one fits a unique niche. Historically, air compressors for high-pressure tanks have been either bulky and expensive or fast but less portable models requiring water cooling. The AEA compressor bridges the gap, featuring a compact design that eschews liquids and can function well without the need for additional fluids.
The AEA compressor can pump air to an impressive pressure of up to 480 Bars, providing versatility for air rifle enthusiasts. Although most applications won't require such high pressure, the flexibility of lower limits often provides better performance for specific models like the GK1, which operates optimally at 350 Bars.
One major advantage of the AEA compressor is its lightweight and portable design. It can be powered by either a standard 220V power outlet or a car battery, offering great flexibility depending on the shooting location. While reviewing the unit, I must extend my gratitude to Francisco from the Wolfia Group for providing the compressor for testing.
Controls and Features
The AEA compressor has an array of features that enhance user experience while powering it on. The device is equipped with a digital display offering current pressure, voltage, current usage, and time to monitor operation effectively. You can set the desired pressure limit digitally, ranging from 0 to 482 Bars.
From my experience, the compressor requires about 200 Watts of power, making it significantly more energy-efficient compared to traditional models. The unique fitting that it comes with is designed for high-pressure applications and may not be compatible with all rifle fittings. To address this issue, I’ve used an adapter to enable better compatibility with different rifles.
As I prepared to demonstrate the functionality of the compressor, I set the target 25 meters away and filled the GK1 to 350 Bars. The compressor operates quietly and efficiently while filling the rifle, and it has a built-in fan that cools the compressor after use to prevent overheating.
The filling process is straightforward and comes with the promise of support accessories, including O-rings and a comprehensive manual.
Conclusion
Overall, I am extremely pleased with the AEA compressor, especially regarding its suitability for my GK1 and K1 air rifles. It perfectly meets my requirements for charging my rifles, whether I want to use it on the shooting range or need a portable solution while out riding my bike. Its ability to handle higher pressures than standard 300 Bar cylinders adds to its appeal.
