Welcome, everyone. Let's dive into exploring the AI Design Assistant from Anthology. We've heard the announcements and the opportunities, and now it's time to see how it actually works. I have a course here that I used to teach, which will allow me to evaluate the content critically. We'll start by changing a few things about the course.
First, I want to change the default graphic. I'll start by editing the image and selecting stock images instead of uploading one. Stock images mean someone has already viewed them to ensure they make sense. Generating images with AI can sometimes yield strange results, so stok is safer. The system automatically adopts my course name. Since my course name is empty, it pre-selects some options. I'm looking for an image that includes individuals, so I’ll select one of the options available.
The next step is to auto-generate modules. Suppose you want to teach your students about AI, you can generate one AI module at a time in Ultra. The system will auto-generate the default amount of modules based on the course name. This isn't what I'm looking for, so I'll use the textbook table of contents as a prompt. I’ll input the first nine chapters and use this as the prompt for generating modules.
After generating, I can see the titles match my outline and descriptions are appropriate. There’s no select-all option, requiring instructors to consciously select which modules to include in their course. We now have a scaffolding structure for the course, which we can edit further if needed.
Next, let's create a document. A document is content that can then be reused for questions. I’ll call it "Introduction," save it, and then generate questions based on the document. We can generate various types of questions, but I’ll select true/false for quick evaluation.
The system generated the questions:
I appreciate the assistance in question creation but recognize the need to occasionally review them for accuracy. Good question quality is critical, so tools like question analysis features inside Blackboard can help improve them over time.
We’ll create a question bank from the questions we approved, then create a test from this pool. For the assignment, I’ll copy and paste existing instructions from the course. The assignment includes creating a rubric. We'll generate the rubric automatically.
The generated rubric included:
These are appropriate for the assignment. I’ll save and attach the rubric to the assignment.
Stock images are straightforward, but AI-generated images can be more creative and sometimes require a few attempts to find the right one. I selected an AI-generated image for demonstration purposes.
These features not only save time and effort in course preparation but also provide different perspectives and ideas. It's beneficial to have external inputs while creating courses rather than working in isolation. Thank you for joining this demonstration.
Q: Can I upload my own images for the course? A: Yes, you can either upload your own images or select from stock images.
Q: How many modules can I auto-generate at a time? A: The system generates the default amount of modules based on the course name or specified prompts such as the table of contents from a textbook.
Q: Can the AI Design Assistant generate multiple types of questions? A: Yes, it can generate various types of questions, including true/false, multiple-choice, and others based on the document content.
Q: Is it possible to edit AI-generated content and questions? A: Absolutely. Instructors can review and edit any AI-generated content and questions to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Q: Do I need to manually select each module for the course? A: Yes, there is no select-all option, requiring instructors to make a deliberate choice to include specific modules in their course.
Q: Can I create my own rubric from scratch? A: Yes, you can manually create a rubric or have one generated automatically by the system, which can then be edited as needed.
Q: Are AI-generated images always suitable for course material? A: AI-generated images can be creative but may need a few attempts to get the desired result. Stock images are safer but less creative.
Q: Can the AI Design Assistant provide new ideas for course content? A: Yes, the external inputs from AI-generated content and suggestions can provide different perspectives and ideas while creating courses.
