Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Caesar from Wire Stream. Today, I'm here in Montclair, where we are going to install License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras alongside my colleagues Luis and Francisco. Luis is already on the roof, and Francisco is running the cables inside the unit. Let me show you the setup.
Installation Overview
The installation process involves running cables through the unit and placing two cameras strategically. These cameras will both be mounted on the wall, with one facing the entrances of the property. The project utilizes Ubiquiti technology, specifically LPR cameras that can read license plates along with standard cameras.

As we head up to the roof, I want to check on how the cables are managed. Here, Luis is working with EMT conduits to ensure that no holes are made in the roof. The cables are running through the designated spacing, leading to their respective junction boxes. The installation involves drilling through thick walls to ensure that everything is securely fastened.
We're using Ubiquity G5 Bullet cameras. These cameras can either be directly mounted to the wall or placed within a junction box. We have considered the use of both Dawa and a Spectrum box depending on site specifications.
Equipment Used
- Ubiquity G5 Bullet Cameras
- AI Pro Cameras for LPR
- Dream Machine SE
- 6 TB TE Hard Drive for storage
After securing the equipment, we prepared to open the Dream Machine SE, which includes the power supply and mounting brackets. This unit will enable us to connect all the cameras, as it has Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability.
Next, we inspected the AI Pro cameras designed for capturing license plates. These will be placed strategically for optimal visibility of incoming vehicles.
Internal Setup
With the cables run through the walls, we are now connecting our camera systems and making sure everything is in place. We had to drill some holes and manage cables carefully, but Luis and Francisco coordinated well to make it happen smoothly.
The setup involves creating clean finishes with cable management plates to ensure a professional look once installation is complete. After wiring everything up, we moved outside to finalize the camera installations.
Finalizing Outdoor Installations
We now have four cameras installed outside, focusing on the parking area and the main entrance. These include two cameras specifically designed for license plate recognition. Our goal is to ensure that as vehicles enter, their license plates are accurately captured.
After wrapping up the configuration inside, including linking the cameras to our T-Mobile internet connection, we proceeded to air out the final setup.
LPR Functionality Review
Once the installation is complete, it's critical to test the functionality of the license plate recognition system. We can view the footage from the AI Pro camera and examine its accuracy for different vehicles. The camera identifies the vehicle type and displays the license plate in real-time.
The AI Pro camera has shown to reliably read license plates with an accuracy rate of 90% or above under varying conditions, making it a viable solution for dense environments.
Conclusion
The project wraps up with successful configuration and our cameras are ready for operation. If you have security camera projects that require DW Spectrum, Ubiquity, or any other type of camera installation, we have the expertise to help. Thank you for following along with this installation journey!
