Can Artificial Intelligence Create My Video Game Assets?
Hey everyone, my name is Alex and in this video, we'll be exploring a new artificial intelligence API I recently discovered called mid-journey. Mid-journey is a text-to-artwork application that converts text into a visual representation using machine learning algorithms. These applications offer customization options for the appearance or style of the output, leading to unique images. By training machine learning models on a large dataset of text and corresponding images or videos, the AI learns to recognize patterns and create associations between the two. In this video, we'll delve into whether this technology could potentially replace artists, specifically video game designers, by using mid-journey to generate basic 8-bit Sprite sheets for a Fallout-themed video game and comparing them with real Sprite sheets.
To get started with mid-journey, head over to midjourney.com, where you can sign up for the beta and link your account with Discord, the platform where the text-to-artwork application operates. Once in the mid-journey Discord server, you can input prompts using commands like "/imagine" to generate images. The API produces unique variations of the input based on specified parameters, providing a quick and effortless way to create video game assets. However, while these AI-generated assets are impressive, they may require some touch-ups before being integrated into a fully-fledged game.
While AI technology like mid-journey can aid in sparking creativity and providing a starting point for game assets, the expertise and creativity of human designers are still invaluable in the video game development process. As of now, fully replacing video game designers with AI is unlikely due to the wide range of skills and intricate details involved in game design. However, AI can serve as a valuable tool to assist designers and streamline certain aspects of asset creation.
Are AI-generated assets ready for immediate use in video game development? Can AI completely replace video game designers in the future? How does mid-journey use machine learning algorithms to create visual representations from text inputs?
