Creative Journal Process | September Days
Howto & Style
Introduction
Hello everyone! It’s Melissa here, and I’m back with my journaling practice, which I’ve been thoroughly enjoying. This September, I'm feeling like I’m starting off on a better foot than August. Although I’m still a bit behind, it’s definitely not as overwhelming as before. While I had fun in August, the pressure of keeping up was a bit much. Today, I have exciting plans to journal about my experiences on Tuesday, the 3rd.
Reflections and Prompt
Guided by our prompts from the week, I’m focusing on something I’ve been deeply mulling over. Our prompt encourages reflection on thought processes, which I find just as engaging as recounting daily activities. Tuesday was mostly a home day for me, filled with various tasks, including finishing up training. I had also picked up more magazines from a lady who saves them for me—what an exciting find!
In addition to my journaling activities, I spent some quality time tending my garden, where I planted broccoli and collards. However, the main event of the day was my training—three hours long, where I learned about a new retinal scanner at the clinic I volunteer at. This tool is designed to detect and diagnose diseases of the eye, especially for patients with health issues like diabetes and hypertension.
Crafting the Page
During my journaling session, I cut and curated various images and elements for my spread, including magazine articles and printables from Etsy. I was particularly excited about using colorful nail polish images and gardening-themed printables. As I sorted and glued pieces onto the page, I found joy in creating little pockets for journaling. I even contemplated adding some unique washi tape to spruce things up.
I’ve been using an HP Envy printer to print my journaling images, and I’ve employed an app called “Print to Size” to adjust image sizes effectively.
Accomplishing the Layout
As I pieced everything together, I aimed for a harmonious layout where each element would complement the others. I finally arrived at a beautiful spread that captures not only the essence of my day but also wisely uses different colors, textures, and images.
The final touch was adding the date and a word—decided to go with “serve,” representing my commitment to helping others, highlighted through my training experiences. This spread wasn't just about filling a page; it became a meaningful representation of my life and my aspirations to continue serving my community.
Conclusion
It was a delightful journaling session, and I’m already excited about the next one. If you haven’t tried putting together a journal like this, I highly recommend giving it a go! Journaling has truly become a creative outlet for me, allowing me to capture my thoughts and memories uniquely.
