I might have some plans coming up with this book as soon as I can find some free time from some of my other projects. I might run some classes around this book. We'll see if my time allows for that, but if you want to study on your own, it's a great book to pick up.

I recommend the R version. Learn the book, learn the theories, understand what you're being taught, and then take the R code and translate it into Python. If you can get through that, you're on your way to being a professional data scientist.
