Hey there! I'm Marty from Spring Head Media Solutions. Today, we're going to dive into making email graphics in Canva based on some of the most popular email design trends. If you're new to my channel, don't forget to subscribe as I'll be making an entire series out of these tutorials.
I often get questions from people who have designed an entire email in Canva but experience trouble transitioning those designs into a functional email. It's best to have graphics in your email along with separate text and buttons. For those curious about why having one giant image as an email isn't ideal, I have a video linked here explaining that.
In this article, we will create graphics in Canva inspired by three emails from reallygoodemail.com. These graphics will blend seamlessly into the rest of your email, allowing you to combine your design with regular text and buttons. Let's dive in!
Image and Text Overlay
Add a frame for your image and text overlay. Ensure the text bleeds off the sides of the frame but avoid splitting letters. Choose an appropriate image that complements your text.
Background Color
Change the background color to match your email's overall theme. Make sure to download the image with a transparent background if you have Canva Pro. Otherwise, download it with the chosen background color.
Oval Image Frame
Add an oval-shaped frame and include graphic elements (like hearts) that connect the image to the background.
Adjust Graphics
Choose and adjust the graphics to match your design. Download the image with a transparent background.
Image Block with Border
Add an image block and apply a border around it. Customize the thickness and color of the border to suit your design. Round the corners if needed.
Text and Effects
Add text over the image and use text effects like outlines to make it stand out. Download the image with a transparent background.
Using Email Platforms You can use MailChimp or any other email platform to integrate your designs.
Background Color Set the background color in your email editor to match your designs.
Adding Images Drag and drop your downloaded images into the email editor. Resize them as necessary and add accompanying text and buttons.
By the end of this tutorial, you'll have three different graphics working seamlessly within your email content. These graphics are optimized for both desktop and mobile views!
1. Why shouldn't I use one giant image for my email? Using one giant image can lead to issues like slow loading times, poor text readability on mobile devices, and difficulty in tracking engagement.
2. What dimensions should I use for my email graphics in Canva? Set your design to 1200px wide and 1600px high. Adjust the height as needed.
3. Can I use Canva for free and still follow this tutorial? Yes, you can. However, certain features like downloading with a transparent background require a Canva Pro account.
4. How do I integrate my Canva designs into MailChimp? Download your designs and upload them to MailChimp. Set the email background color to match your design, add text, and buttons for a seamless look.
5. Can these designs adapt well to mobile views? Yes, following these steps ensures that your designs will be both desktop and mobile-friendly.
