How I built a Greek god dating app using AI images

Education

Introduction

Creating a Greek god dating app may sound like a humorous endeavor, but it turned out to be a fun project that combined my appreciation for mythology with my interest in technology. Below, I’ll share how I used AI tools like OpenAI’s DALL-E and Zapier to generate unique images for the app based on various Greek gods.

Concept Development

The whole idea started as a joke, but once I delved into it, I found the potential for creating a whimsical app that could entertain and educate users about Greek mythology. To get started, I needed to create a database of Greek gods. I compiled a list of deities, their attributes, mythology, and potential personality traits that could be incorporated into the app profiles.

Image Generation Using DALL-E

Once I had my database set up, it was time to generate images for the app profiles. I used OpenAI's DALL-E, a powerful AI image generation tool, to create distinctive visual representations of the gods. To automate the process, I turned to Zapier, a platform designed to connect different applications and automate workflows.

Setting Up Zapier Automation

The automation process involved creating a "Zap" in Zapier whenever a new record was added to my database. I made a simple form in Airtable where I could check a box next to the names of the gods for whom I wanted images generated. Each time I checked the box, Zapier would trigger the DALL-E image generation based on the information from the database.

Seamless Flow of Information

The generated images would then automatically update in Airtable, allowing me to see a variety of images for each Greek god. Interestingly, DALL-E generated five images for each request, giving me plenty of options to choose from. I could then select the one that best fit the character of the god as per their mythological background.

Cost Efficiency

What made this project even more exciting was the fact that I managed to do it all essentially for free. OpenAI provides a certain allotment of credits for image generation, and I was able to stay within that limit throughout the development process. By the time I finished, I had a plethora of unique and quirky images ready for the app, all without incurring any expenses.

FAQ

Q: How did you come up with the idea for a Greek god dating app?
A: The concept was originally a joke, but I saw it as a fun opportunity to combine my interests in mythology and technology.

Q: What tools did you use to create the app?
A: I used OpenAI's DALL-E for image generation and Zapier to automate the process of connecting my database with the image generation tool.

Q: How did you manage to create images for free?
A: OpenAI offers a set amount of credits for image generation, and I was able to keep my usage within that limit while generating images for the app.

Q: Can you explain how the automation with Zapier works?
A: I set up a Zap in Zapier that triggers an image generation request whenever I checked a box in my Airtable database. Once the images were generated, they automatically updated in Airtable.

Q: Were the images generated specific to each god?
A: Yes, the images were created based on the traits and attributes stored in my database for each Greek god, leading to unique representations.
