How I Make Aesthetic Instagram Reels & TikToks as an Artist! (Filming, Editing, Monetization)

Welcome back to my channel! If you're new here, my name is Katie Mai, and I'm an illustrator who shares my art journey with all of you lovely people on the internet. Today, I'm going to take you through my process of creating TikToks and Instagram Reels, from brainstorming ideas to editing and monetization. Whether you're an artist or just getting started with creating short-form videos, I hope this article will provide some helpful tips and insights!

    Brainstorming Ideas

When it comes to creating content for TikTok and Instagram Reels, my biggest advice is to make what you enjoy watching. Spend some time researching and exploring both platforms to see what types of videos resonate with you. For me, as an artist, I love watching people paint and enjoy outfit of the day videos. So, I create videos in those genres because they align with my interests.

It's also important to actively keep up with trends on TikTok and Instagram in order to stay relevant. Trends change quickly, so staying informed will help you create content that resonates with your audience.

I personally love creating video series on both TikTok and Instagram Reels. It not only helps me stay consistent with my content, but it also encourages viewers to binge-watch the entire series. If one video from the series performs well, it's likely that viewers will go back and watch the others in the series, generating more views for you.

To help me stay organized, I create a content calendar using Notion. This gives me a rough idea of when I should film, edit, and post my reels. It's not a strict schedule, but rather a guide that keeps me on track and ensures I don't miss any important dates.

    Filming and Editing

Once you have your ideas and a content calendar in place, it's time to start filming your TikToks and Instagram Reels. You don't need fancy equipment to get started, as long as you have a phone that can shoot videos. I use my iPhone XR, which has a decent camera for creating content.

I highly recommend using a tripod for your phone to make filming easier and to achieve better angles. This allows you to get creative with your shots and ensures stability. Find a spot with an interesting background and good lighting, such as near a window.

When filming, think about the flow of your video and vary your shots. Start off wide, then gradually come in closer as you go through the drawing or painting process. This adds visual interest to your video and prevents it from feeling stagnant.

Once you have your clips, it's time to edit them. There are many third-party editing apps available, and the one I use is Film Plus. This app allows me to edit my videos easily and maintain their quality when posting on multiple platforms.

Trim your clips to the desired length and arrange them in the order you want. Fine-tune your edits, such as adjusting the brightness, contrast, and saturation. You can also apply filters to give your video a unique look. Play around with different filters to find the one that suits your aesthetic.

Lastly, add text, music, and any other additional elements to enhance your video. Be sure to export your final video to your camera roll so that it's ready for posting.

There are a few ways you can monetize your TikToks and Instagram Reels as an artist. One option is through sponsorships, where brands pay you to promote their products in your videos. This can be a lucrative source of income, but it's important to choose sponsorships that align with your values and interests.

Another way to make money is through Instagram's Bonus Reels program. This program rewards creators with a bonus based on the number of views their reels receive. However, the program is not available to everyone, and it's not a guaranteed source of income. You'll need a substantial number of views to earn a significant bonus.

Currently, my monthly bonus from Instagram Reels is around $ 100. This may vary depending on the number of views your reels receive. While it's a nice addition to my income, I don't rely on it as a consistent revenue stream. It's more like a bonus at the end of the month.

Remember, creating TikToks and Instagram Reels should be enjoyable for you. Don't water down your content just to chase views or money. Stay true to your creative vision and focus on creating content that you and your audience love.
