How I Make Comics/Manga With AI Using ChatGPT + Canva
Film & Animation
Introduction
Hey everyone, it's Mr. Composition, the MC that writes fiction, and I'm excited to share my journey in creating comics and manga by combining traditional writing methods with the power of AI. A few weeks ago, I received a physical copy of my book in the mail—a project that's been a labor of love and innovation. This book encompasses two different concepts that will eventually become two separate books. The first is titled Taco's Awakening: Book One, which will be a full-length novel. The second part will consist of four to five one-shots inspired by various creators, including Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind One Piece.
The Journey from Idea to Physical Book
In this video, I wanted to demonstrate how transitioning from a simple idea to a physical book is absolutely achievable, especially with the help of AI technology. For instance, I recently made a post asking which character had the most main character energy, and by a landslide, the Monkey Swordsman emerged as a favorite. This sparked the idea for a one-shot featuring Gam the Monkey Swordsman, who is tasked with protecting a baby dragon.
To bring my ideas to life, I utilized a combination of digital tools and AI. For example, I generated images to visualize my characters and settings. While I don't rely solely on AI-generated content, I use tools like ChatGPT (especially the paid version) for consistent character designs, ensuring that the characters remain true to their appearances across various situations.
The Creation Process
Creating my comic book involves compiling various separate images and combining them into a cohesive narrative. What’s fascinating is seeing everything print out in physical form. I’m thrilled with how it turned out. Not only does this approach leverage AI for visual content, but it still requires me to write and develop original story ideas.
I can’t stress enough that while AI contributes significantly to the visual aspects, the story and concepts are mine. Many creators shy away from using AI due to misconceptions about originality. However, I aim to use it as a tool to enhance my creative output rather than replace it.
The overall project includes multiple titles and stories; alongside Taco's Awakening, I have a project called Dream Shift, and I’m also in the works with a few others. I want to produce quality content and—the best part—is that if a particular series gains traction, I would be open to collaborating with an artist to refine it further down the line.
