    blog thumbnail

    Introduction

Hello there and welcome to Live with the Paper Pixie episode 340! If you’re new here, I’m Julie DeMario, also known as The Paper Pixie, coming to you live from Alpharetta, Georgia. Tonight, we’re diving into two exciting paper crafting projects: a Double Funfold Card and a Pinwheel Gift Box. I’ve also resurrected a project from the past and updated it with a new twist!

For our live stream newcomers, welcome! We’ve got an amazing community who will give you a warm welcome in the chat. I want to give a special shout out to my Pixie Patrons in the chat, recognizable by the little magic wand icon next to their names. Your support is greatly appreciated.

    Introduction of Tonight’s Projects

We have two delightful projects lined up:

    1. Double Funfold Card: A creatively designed combination of a book binding fold and a Z fold, inspired by my friend Karen Titus.
    2. Pinwheel Gift Box: A vintage project updated to not require an envelope punch board, suitable for holding a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and a mini 2x2 card.

    Tools and Materials

    Sketched Butterflies Bundle

This new bundle from the annual catalog includes a variety of intricate and open dies perfect for creating detailed butterfly designs.

    Stylish Shapes Dies

A versatile set of dies that can be used for various shapes and designs, making them great for adding extra details to your projects.

Designer Series Paper (2024-2026 In Color)

We will use this paper to show off design on both sides for both the Double Funfold Card and the Pinwheel Gift Box.

Steps to Create the Pinwheel Gift Box

    Materials Needed:

    • Designer Series Paper: 6x6 inches
    • Simply Scored Scoring Tool or Paper Trimmer

    Scoring Instructions:

    1. Score at 4 inches, 4 7/8 inches, 7 1/8 inches, and 8 inches, ensuring the paper is placed diagonally on the Simply Scored tool with a Sharpie line on the 6-inch mark.
    2. Rotate the paper a quarter turn and repeat the scoring.
    3. Fold and burnish the score lines.

    Cutting Instructions:

    1. Cut along the vertical score lines up to the second horizontal score line on each side to create tabs.
    2. Optional: For a pinwheel effect, cut tabs in a pinwheel formation. Alternatively, cut tabs in the same direction if easier.
    3. Miter cut the tabs for clean assembly.

    Assembling the Box:

    1. Fold the sections to create the pinwheel pattern on top.
    2. Adhere the tabs to form the box using liquid glue.
    3. Decorate as desired. Example: a small butterfly die cut from the Sketch Butterflies.

Steps to Create the Double Funfold Card

    Materials Needed:

    • Cardstock: Petunia Pop
    • Designer Series Paper (DSP): Coordinating pattern from the same pack

    Scoring Instructions:

    1. Using an 8.5x11 inch piece of cardstock, score at 2 1/8 inches and 4 1/4 inches. Flip and score at 5 1/2 inches.
    2. Fold to create a Z shape on one side and a book binding fold on the other.

    Cutting and Adhering DSP:

    1. Cut DSP to 4x6 inches, and then into three sections: 1 inch, 2 inches, and 3 inches.
    2. Adhere the 1-inch piece to the left panel and the 3-inch piece in the center.

    Final Touches:

    1. Stamp and die-cut shapes using the Sketched Butterflies Bundle.
    2. Adhere the shapes and decorate as desired.

    Conclusion

That wraps up tonight’s live crafting session!

    FAQ

Q: What happens if my Pinwheel Gift Box tabs don't align perfectly?

A: The Pinwheel Gift Box is quite forgiving. Simply ensure your folds are sharp and your tabs are well adhered. Small misalignments will not be noticeable once the box is fully assembled.

Q: Can the Double Funfold Card fit in a standard envelope?

A: Yes, the card is designed to fit perfectly in a standard medium envelope.

Q: Can I use the same scoring measurements for another size of paper for the pinwheel box?

A: Adjustments may be needed for different paper sizes. The measurements provided are optimized for 6x6 inch paper to keep things simple.

Q: Do you have any tricks for cleaning the paper trimmer track?

A: Yes! Use a folded piece of cardstock to clear out the track. A snug fit will help remove any paper fuzzies that might be affecting your cuts.

Q: How do I ensure my newly cut blades on the trimmer last longer?

A: Stab a rolled-up ball of tin foil with the blade to clean off adhesive and extend its life.

That concludes tonight's live stream summary and Q&A. Feel free to check out the replay for a more in-depth crafting session and additional tips.
