My Road to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Certified AI Practitioner Certification

Science & Technology

Introduction

As the famous phrase goes, "AI might not take your job, but the person with AI knowledge will." I'm thrilled to announce that I've cleared the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Certified AI Practitioner exam. This achievement marks my sixth AWS certification and my thirty-third overall certification milestone.

Housekeeping Tasks Before Watching the Video

Before diving into the exam details, it's essential to note that all candidates must sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Amazon Web Services. Therefore, I'm unable to share the exact test questions. While I also do not possess a photographic memory, I can provide some insights into what to expect during the exam.

Given that AWS often updates its infrastructure and services, please be aware that some of this information might change after a few days, weeks, or months. For clarity, I kindly request that you refrain from asking for exam dumps or specific questions, as doing so undermines the examination process.

Exam Overview

  • Duration of Exam: 120 Minutes
  • Number of Questions: 80 (five for beta)
  • Note: The details above pertain to the beta version of the exam; they may differ when you take the actual exam.

Exam Preparation

You do not need to invest money in preparation for this exam, but familiarity with specific key services is crucial. I utilized official AWS resources to prepare, and you can find those links in the video comments section.

Based on my experience, here are five services you must know to pass the exam:

  1. Amazon Bedrock: Approximately half of the exam questions focus on Bedrock-related topics. You should familiarize yourself with aspects such as guardrails, knowledge-based agents, and model evaluation.

  2. Amazon SageMaker: As the second most frequently mentioned service in the exam, a strong understanding of SageMaker is required. Be well-versed in features like SageMaker Studio, Canvas, Ground Truth, Jump Start, and others.

  3. Machine Learning Terminology: It's critical to understand key machine learning terms such as AUC, RMSE, etc.

  4. Generative AI Terminology: Familiarity with generative AI terms, including top-K, temperature, hallucination, tokens, vector embeddings, etc., is essential.

  5. AWS Core Services: The exam assumes a comfortable understanding of core AWS services, including Identity and Access Management (IAM), CloudTrail, S3, and others.

Observations About the Exam

While preparing for the exam, I encountered certain aspects that I found less favorable:

  • Focus on Older Services: AWS features several machine learning services that have been around since before the generative AI era (like Comprehend, Polly, and Rekognition), yet these are still heavily featured in the exam, despite being somewhat outdated.

  • Complexity of Bedrock and SageMaker: Both Bedrock and SageMaker consist of multiple services and components, making it challenging—especially for newcomers—to recall everything accurately.

Tip: Before taking the exam, utilize the sample exams provided by AWS. This will help assess your knowledge level and show how well-prepared you are. A link to the sample exams is available in the video description.

Concluding Thoughts

Whether or not you plan to take the exam, gaining knowledge of Bedrock will be essential in the forthcoming years if you intend to use AWS. This service is set to become a de facto standard, and familiarity with it will be as crucial as knowing EC2 or S3.

In my experience, most questions on the exam are straightforward, with only a few scenario-based questions. Stay calm during the examination, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any queries.
