New Copyright Features, Updates to Our Harassment Policy, and more | Monthly Creator Roundup

Education

Introduction

Hey creators! Welcome back to our monthly news roundup. We skipped last month for the holidays, but we’re back with some much-awaited updates. Let’s dive in!

We’ve been working to enhance copyright tools in YouTube Studio to help creators understand the reasons behind copyright strikes and resolve them more quickly.

  • You will now see information about your channel's copyright strikes directly on your YouTube Studio dashboard.
  • Clicking on the info card will reveal a specific description of the copyrighted work that the claimant provided in their takedown notice.
  • We've added a trim option directly on the video copyright details page, allowing you to trim out copyrighted content and automatically release the claim as soon as you receive a Content ID claim.
  • Additionally, there is a new filter on the videos page to easily see which of your videos have been impacted by copyright strikes or Content ID claims.

Read more about these updates in the help community post linked below.

Channel Overview in YouTube Studio Analytics

Do you understand your channel's performance? If you haven’t already, check out the new channel overview in YouTube Studio analytics!

  • We now present a personalized summary of how your channel is performing compared to its typical performance.
  • We've received positive feedback, but we want to hear from you too, so please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Transitioning to the New YouTube Studio

We are gradually sunsetting Creator Studio Classic to make way for the new YouTube Studio.

  • In January, we removed the 'back to classic' button for 1% of creators, garnering valuable feedback.
  • Many of you expressed interest in a dark mode for Studio, which has been added to our product roadmap. Other improvements based on feature requests have also been implemented.
  • We will continue to remove the back to classic button in the coming months, and you’ll receive a notification when this happens for your account.

Updates to Our Harassment Policy

In December, we announced changes to our harassment policy designed to better protect creators and the YouTube community.

  • Our new policy prohibits veiled or implied threats, including simulating violence toward individuals.
  • Prolonged and malicious attacks based on intrinsic attributes such as race, religion, or sexual orientation are also not allowed.
  • This policy applies to everyone, including individuals, creators, and public officials.
  • However, wide-ranging debates, opinions, satire, comedy, or criticism remain permitted.
  • Channels that frequently violate our harassment policy may face suspension, and we will consider removing content or suspending channels that continuously harass individuals.

New Topics in Subscriptions Feed on iOS

We've introduced new topics in the subscriptions feed on iOS to help subscribers easily catch up on content from their favorite creators.

  • Viewers can tap on topics to find videos related to them, displayed in reverse chronological order.
  • The "Today" section shows videos published within the past 24 hours, "Continue Watching" displays videos that were started but not finished, and "Unwatched" shows videos that haven't been viewed yet.

Testing showed that these topics encourage subscribers to check their subs feed daily for updates.

Timely Updates on YouTube Issues

If something breaks on YouTube, you can now find more timely updates directly in the Studio dashboard.

  • Scroll down to the right side of the dashboard to see a "Known YouTube Issues" box with a brief description of current issues.
  • This will also provide a link to the help community for more information, and you can check back to see when an issue is fixed.

That's it for this month's roundup! Be sure to comment, like, and subscribe. See you next month!
