Welcome back to the Trinity of videos that I’m dropping for you today from the event in Milan. The biggest highlight is the OnePlus Watch 2R, the newest addition to the OnePlus smartwatch lineup. Since mwc 2024, the OnePlus Watch 2 has been one of my favorite watches, and I’ve been using it religiously. Now, it gets a successor in the form of the OnePlus Watch 2R, akin to how the OnePlus 12 has a 12R variant.

The OnePlus Watch 2R is designed to be a more affordable version while retaining the core elements that made the Watch 2 great. Here's my initial impression after using it for 24 hours and how seamless the transition from the OnePlus Watch 2 to 2R was for me.

Key Features and Design

At first glance, you might not be able to distinguish the OnePlus Watch 2 from the OnePlus Watch 2R. The design continuity makes it a visual sibling to the OnePlus 12 and 12R. The heart of the device remains pretty much the same, featuring the same internals and battery life that we loved on the OnePlus Watch 2.

Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, the OnePlus Watch 2R sports the W5 Snapdragon processor alongside the bees 2700 processor, enabling it to run dual operating systems. This duality offers fantastic battery life—up to four days of general use and around 48 hours with heavy usage. The watch uses Wear OS and RT OS simultaneously, allowing it to efficiently switch between fitness tracking and the more full-fledged smartwatch functionalities.

Software and Usability

Despite a more budget-friendly price, the OnePlus Watch 2R provides access to the Google Play Store, Google Assistant, and Google Pay, making it highly versatile. It seamlessly pairs with Android devices through the O Health application. My OnePlus 12 recognized it immediately, and setup was a breeze.

For those concerned about performance, rest easy. The OnePlus Watch 2R comes equipped with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, giving you room to install your favorite apps and additional watch faces. However, it's essential to note that third-party watch faces may disable the dual-mode functionality—something to keep in mind if you prioritize battery life over customization.

Battery Saver Mode

One of the features I absolutely love is the battery saver mode. If you find yourself low on battery without a charger, you can switch the watch to run solely on RT OS, extending its battery life significantly. While you lose some functionalities in this mode, it’s a lifesaver until you can recharge.

Final Thoughts

My initial experience with the OnePlus Watch 2R has been overwhelmingly positive. While I’ll need more time to see if it matches up to the OnePlus Watch 2 fully, the signs are promising.
