Hey everyone, this is Jenny Garcia, and I'm sharing a Project Life process video using one of the remix kits from Studio Calico. A few months ago, I decided to breathe new life into my past Studio Calico kits by rearranging them. This method is especially helpful when I'm running low on journaling cards and embellishments. Instead of dealing with several small kits, I combine them into one large kit, stored conveniently in an old zipper pouch. This approach is perfect for an overembellisher like me.
I recently finished my Project Life 2021 off-camera. I had braces a few months ago, which made speaking difficult for a while, but I'm feeling better now. In this spread, I had several card spaces, so I used a few filler ones. I love creating title cards with the 6x4 cards, using alphas from Paper Person and additional elements from the Studio Calico warehouse sale.
I've accumulated a lot of labels from past kits, which I use for journaling and adding dates. These labels run out fast, especially since I also use them in my reading journal. Studio Calico inks are a favorite of mine; though some colors are from a discontinued line by A Beautiful Mess, I still use them frequently.
The remix kits are a mix of different Studio Calico kits, giving them a new aesthetic. Even if the kits were not originally designed to go together, they blend surprisingly well. I also integrate other random stickers, particularly those from collaborations between “In a Creative Bubble” and “Feed Your Craft.”
I enjoy over embellishing, so I typically add stickers and elements to areas with empty space, like ceilings or grass in photos. Despite the mix of embellishments from various months, everything looks cohesive. This process also includes arranging items in a diagonal line to guide the viewer's eye through the layout.
Project Life is essential for me because it allows me to document everyday moments and random events. For 2024, I plan to do Project Life monthly, ensuring I keep up with printing photos. Mixing kits ensures I have a variety of embellishments and journaling options to keep things interesting.
I organize my embellishments by color and return them to their designated spots once I'm done creating. This method simplifies the process and ensures I can quickly find what I need for future projects. Tiny stickers from Pipsticks and other sources are also a significant part of my decoration process.
I often use printables, particularly from Everyday Explorers, allowing me to alter colors and match my layouts better. These versatile items are invaluable, especially for repeated use in different spreads.
The final spread is colorful but not overly complex. Some filler cards stayed the same to avoid overwhelming the layout. I hope you enjoyed this detailed look into my Project Life process. Thanks for watching, and I wish you an amazing day!
Project Life is a popular scrapbooking system created by Becky Higgins. It involves using pocket pages and journaling cards to quickly and easily document everyday life.
Mixing up past kits gives them a new life and ensures I have enough journaling cards and embellishments for my projects. It also makes it easier to use a single large kit rather than several smaller ones.
I organize my embellishments by color and keep them in designated drawers. This system makes it easy to find and use the embellishments I need for each project.
I use a variety of labels and journaling cards, primarily from Studio Calico and other collaborations like “In a Creative Bubble” with “Feed Your Craft.” These labels are handy for adding dates and journaling details.
Despite the kits having different themes, they often share a similar aesthetic, making it easier to blend them. I also incorporate other stickers and elements to ensure everything works well together.
I use printables from Everyday Explorers, which I often alter in color to better match my layouts. These printables are versatile and ideal for repeated use.
I try to ensure that the colors and embellishments do not overpower the photos or cards. If a spread has many colors, I may use simpler designs to balance everything out. The use of embellishments is strategic, focusing on empty spaces or less prominent areas in photos.
