Hey, it's Roger Rockman from Tectonic, and today I've got a really exciting unboxing for you—the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G version. Initially, I didn't plan to buy it; I even tried talking myself out of getting it. But the innovation packed into this device was too much to resist. So, I pre-ordered it on September 23rd, thinking it would take four to six weeks to arrive. To my surprise, I got a call three days later from the Oswestry Samsung Experience Store, and now it's here!
The box is larger than usual, probably because the phone might be in its unfolded tablet mode. Let's jump straight into the unboxing.
The box slides out in a pretty cool way. Here are some specs while I open it:
As soon as you open the box, you'll see a lot of instructions. For instance, don't press too hard on the screen, avoid placing hard objects or coins on it, keep it away from water and dust, don't attach any screen protectors, and don't place it near credit cards due to strong magnets.
Once you remove the plastic wrapper, you'll find the device feels solid—just as you'd expect given its premium price. Here's a quick tour:
Inside the box, you'll find:
Turning on the device and setting it up from scratch, it feels good in the hand and isn't as bulky as I initially thought.
Opening and closing the device feels satisfying, thanks to the sturdy hinge mechanism. The crease on the inside screen is visible only at certain angles and is slightly noticeable to the touch, but I doubt it'll be a huge distraction.
The phone feels snappy, and the front screen is significantly softer than regular glass screens. The notch at the top hasn't been an issue so far, but I'll have to use it more to be sure.
The Galaxy Fold feels premium and requires careful handling. With Samsung's warnings, it's clear this is a delicate device meant for careful use. I'll be switching from my Galaxy S10 5G to this as my main phone and will continue to update you with my experiences.
