Soundcraft Ui24R | Using the Session Maker App
Hello and welcome to the Soundcraft video manual series! Today, we'll cover how to use the Session Maker App with your Ui24R. The Session Maker App allows you to import audio files recorded from other devices, like a DAW, and play them through your Ui24R. This can be particularly useful for practicing mixing or conducting a sound check before the band arrives. Let’s get started!
Requirements and Preparation
To use the Session Maker App, you'll need a USB stick formatted to FAT32. Ideally, the USB stick should have no more than 32 GB of space and a write speed of at least 25 megabits per second.
Steps:
- Prepare the USB Stick:
- If your USB stick has been used with your Ui24R before, you might already have a folder named
multitrack
. If not, create one:
- Open the root directory of your flash drive.
- Right-click in the window area, go to New, and create a new folder.
- Name the folder
multitrack
.
Exporting Tracks
Prepare Your DAW:
- Here, we have a DAW session where I recorded my band playing one of our songs. I want to export this so that I can have each track playing on my Ui24R, aiding in setting up a rough mix before taking it on the road.
Balance Your Tracks:
- Make sure all tracks or channels are exported as individual audio files or stems.
- The Session Maker App has a limit of 22 tracks.
- Ensure that all your tracks have the same start and end point. This is crucial and will be apparent in the File Explorer since they'll have the same file size.
Importing and Converting Files
Naming and Ordering Tracks:
- Add a two-digit number to each filename to order them as you want them to appear in the Ui24R.
Using the Session Maker App:
- Open the Session Maker App.
- Drag and drop all your tracks into the empty area of the app. It will automatically convert the files.
- Click the export icon (top left) to export the session.
Exporting the Session:
- In the next window, navigate to the multitrack folder on your flash drive.
- Ensure you’re exporting inside the track folder.
- Name your session and click Save. The exporting process might take some time depending on the length and number of files.
Loading and Playing Back on Ui24R
Transferring the Session:
- Eject the flash drive and insert it into the record USB slot on the front of your mixer.
Opening the Mixer Interface:
- Open the interface, then the player by selecting the player icon on the top bar.
- Select the multitrack tab on the right-hand corner. You’ll now see your session on the left-hand side ready for playback.
Enabling Soundcheck:
- Enable the soundcheck feature by hitting the Activate Soundcheck button to route the USB audio to the main mix.
- Hit play, and you should see the recorded tracks being played on your channels in the main mix.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues where the tracks aren’t showing:
- Verify that files are being played (indicated by a moving bar).
- If issues persist, try re-exporting the session through the app.
- Lastly, check the patching tab under mixer settings. Your soundcheck and USB patching should look like this for factory default patching. Tap the reset button to clear any changes made to the screen.
