Welcome to our first look at VEGAS Pro 22! My name is Paul Yonak, and I'm a videographer from Germany. I just downloaded VEGAS Pro 22 yesterday and I'm excited to dive into its new features. Let’s start with the updated interface and functionalities that enhance the editing experience.
Right off the bat, we notice a fresh start screen. It presents different format options for editing super easily. You’ll find options for 16:9, 4:3, 9:16, square, and cinema format along with various frame rates. Users can also choose between drop frame and non-drop frame settings, which could be beneficial when working on high-class cinema projects. For this walkthrough, I’ll create a project in 16:9.
Once we’re in VEGAS Pro 22, the layout feels very familiar, similar to previous versions that users are accustomed to. A notable addition is the new Explorer tab, where you can navigate through different folders and import media. It’s now possible to playback footage directly from the Explorer, including behind-the-scenes clips, making trimming and adding to the timeline easier than ever.
VEGAS Pro 22 showcases impressive playback capabilities. The software runs smoothly even in Ultra HD at 25 FPS while supporting high frame rate footage at 50 FPS. It handles high-quality codecs remarkably well, which is essential for professional video production.
Many users previously experienced hiccups with highly compressed footage, such as GoPro or DJI clips, but in this version, playback is notably smoother. I even tested some high-quality 100 FPS GoPro footage, and it performed extremely well.
Vegas Pro 22 also brings exciting AI-driven tools to the table that enhance editing possibilities. An AI auto-reframe feature allows you to adapt your footage to various formats (16:9, square, portrait) easily. It analyzes each frame, which can help optimize content for different platforms seamlessly.
One innovative addition is the AI smoothing feature, which automatically refines skin tones and improves appearance—ideal for social media content. The AI mask creation is another advanced feature; it allows for automatic tracking and isolation of subjects in the frame.
However, some of these features require considerable GPU power. When applying multiple effects, such as AI masking and skin smoothing, there might be a noticeable delay. VEGAS Pro 22 does have stability issues from time to time, which can lead to a crash during heavy processing, but overall, the performance remains commendable.
The effects palette in VEGAS Pro 22 has received several new additions, including AI sharpening, which can enhance image clarity, and dehaze tools designed to improve visibility in high-haze footage. These new features broaden the scope for creativity, allowing you to tackle different challenges during the editing process.
Furthermore, for users with VEGAS 365 Pro, there’s access to a rich library of stock footage, which can be directly integrated into projects, providing even more creative options.
Overall, VEGAS Pro 22 is looking like a remarkable update. The focus on stability, smooth performance with high-quality footage, and the incorporation of AI features significantly enhances the editing experience. As a long-time user and an ambassador for VEGAS, I appreciate the emphasis on what matters most: performance and usability. I’m not sponsored but share my genuine excitement about these updates.
Thank you for joining me for this first look at VEGAS Pro 22. I’m looking forward to creating more content with this software, and I hope to see you in the next video!
